Indian Concrete Institute

The Inaugural ceremony of ICI-Students Chapter of Amal Jyothi College of Engineering was held on 7 September 2013. The Chief Guests for the event were Er. Shelly S. Fernandez, Chairman, ICI-Kochi Centre and Mr. Ravi Prakash, Manager Technical of RMC Ready Mix. Welcome speech was given by Mr.Belarmin Xavier C S, Asst. Professor, CE Dept. Mr. Shelly S. Fernandez pointed out the faults and carelessness usually made by civil engineers, which led to the failure of the structure like Poonam Chambers Worli, Mumbai, Mandovi River Bridge etc., which led to loss of lives. He compared human life especially marital life to the building structures through his presentation. Thereafter, Mr. Ravi Prakash took over the stage and spoke on readymix concrete. He touched upon different innovative architectural structures at different parts of the world such as Nehru Science Center in Mumbai, Lotus Temple, Delhi, Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malasiya etc.

Activities of ICI Students Chapter

A quiz competition named CRESCERE 14 was conducted on behalf of Indian Concrete Institute Kochi Chapter. Preliminary round was conducted at Amal Jyothi College of engineering on 5th of February 2014, in which 31 students participated out of which 2 students were shortlisted for the finals. Final round was conducted on 1st of March 2014 in Albertinian Institute of science and Technology Kalamassery.

ICI concrete Cube strength competition was conducted in 2013 and 2014. Amal Jyothi was the winners for the Concrete Cube Strength Competition held in 2013. The Cube Strength Competition of this year was conducted on 25th of March 2014, under the supervision of Er. Hemanth K.T. in which 2 batches of 6 students each participated representing the college.

ISTE (Indian Society of Technical Education)

ISTE was founded in the year 1967 with a mission to advance for the cause of education in general and all its function which pertain to engineering and allied branches of engineering and technology, architecture and town planning, pharmacy, management, process of teaching and learning, research, extension services and public relations in particular. The main goal is to serve as a common agency for stimulating and guiding its members to formulate the general goals and responsibilities of technical education for the service of mankind and the advancement of general welfare.

Students in Department of Civil engineering are members of ISTE Kerala chapter.
