The Department of Civil Engineering was established way back in 2006 and has been continuing its glorious journey ever since. In 2009 and 2014, we were proud to launch two M. Tech courses, which elevated our status to greater heights. The Dept. takes immense pleasure in delivering technically proficient and ethically responsible engineers to the society and promises to produce more for improving the living standards of our nation. Targeting the creation of best designers of the world’s infrastructure, we mould our gems with the skills of proper attitude and enthusiasm for the subject and provide a lifestyle harmonious with the environment.
The Dept. is also privileged to have an extremely dynamic and dedicated faculty whose expertise has been widely acknowledged. Civil engineers build the world’s infrastructure, which enables them to have opportunities galore with new players entering the market and large- scale developments announced around the globe.

Civil Engineers build the world’s infrastructure, which encompasses Railways, Highways, Bridges, Water-works, Skyscrapers, Canals, Wharves, Industrial Buildings, Rapid Transit Systems, Power Plants etc. They deal with the design, construction, maintenance and repair of structures. There are opportunities galore for civil engineers, with new players entering the market and more large-scale developments announced around the globe. The four-year B. Tech program and the two-year M. Tech program of the Department are dedicated to delivering technically proficient and ethically responsible engineers to the society
Civil Engineers are trained in the areas of Surveying, Structural Analysis & Design, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engg. and Environmental Engg. Opportunities for higher studies are also available in allied disciplines such as Coastal and Ocean Engg, Hydraulic Engg, Remote Sensing, Irrigation Engg and Geodetic Engg.
Industry visits are instrumental in understanding the theoretical concepts learnt in the classrooms. They act as a platform for students to gain first- hand on-site experience and to interact with leading professionals. Industry visits are arranged periodically to centres of academic interest, within and without the State.
The Dept. undertakes both field and lab consultancy work in the domains of surveying and material testing. Short- term courses in Total Station survey and civil engineering software like STADD, REVIT, AUTOCAD, ANSYS, ABACUS, MATLAB, CSi SAP 2000 and PRIMAVERA are conducted for both students and the public, at moderate rates.
‘Clean Kerala Campaign’, a brainchild of the is an endeavour to spread the awareness for a healthy State. The prevailing waste disposal systems across Kerala are primitive, and demand a complete overhaul. The Campaign envisages a methodical waste management plan for the State, which derives from the concept of self sustainability, exploring the possibilities of bioenergy generation. Projects/ Schemes for collection and disposal of solid waste in the nearby towns of Kanjirapally, Erumely and Erattupetta were monitored on a short-term basis and alternatives were decided. Students of the seventh semester are taking up the design of a waste treatment plant as part of their course project in coherence with the campaign.
Top-notch laboratory resources are essential for the development of a modern- day technocrat. The Dept. of CE boasts of well -equipped labs, manned by highly competent staff. The laboratories that come under the purview of the Dept are Strength of Materials Lab, Hydraulics Lab, Survey Lab, Geotechnical Engg Lab, Concrete Lab, Computer- Aided Design (CAD) Lab, Structural Engineering Lab and Transportation Engg Lab.
