- ZERO WASTE – KOTTAYAM- We owe a lot to others!!!
As per MG University, in addition to the requirements prescribed for the award of B.Tech. Degree, each student must complete compulsory social service for a total duration of 15 days during 3rd to 7th semesters. Normally students do not undergo any social service of much relevance to the community.Mechanical Engineering department in AJCE, in consultation with some local self governing bodies, decided to send the students for community work atMundakayam Grama Panchayat for reducing and re-cycling plastic waste –“ZERO WASTE initiativeKOTTAYAM”.
Hence we joined hands with Mundakayam Grama Panchayat for creating awareness on “Reducing-Refusing & Re-cycling” of plastic materials among the citizens. As a part of the programme 40 students of second year Mechanical Engineering were requested to deliver this message to each and every household of the Panchayat from 30th of June to 4th of July 2015.In order to improve the environmental conditions and create awareness to the citizens on the necessity of disposing plastic materials in an environment friendly and scientific way similar programmes may be arranged with the help of various agencies and academic institutions in the district. This will be beneficial not only for the society but also for the students involved. We owe a lot to others!!!
- Inauguration of KISSAN JYOTHI -2015 at Kalaketty open market
Kisan Jyothi – 2015 the one of a kind Exhibition of agro-related equipment for farmers, developed by the aspiring Mechanical Engineers of the ME Department , A J C E, Kanjirappally was Inaugurated by Dr. James Jacob, Director, Rubber Research Institute of India.
Most of the projects exhibited were prize winners in the national level. The exhibition was helpful for farmers, planters and students to share their “ideas” which could be developed further. The exhibited items included:-

- Rubber Leaf Compactor
- Trash Compactor
- Arecanut De-Husker

The NSS Unit in conjunction with the AME and RBC of AJCE conducted a blood donation initiative on the theme Share a Little- Care a Little, inaugurated by Fr.Manager and Shibu Thekkemattam, dist. Co-ordinator, Blood Donation Forum on the 31 of march 2015
The drive provided a mammoth collection of 204 units of blood towards the Medical College, Kottayam and 61 Units to Kottayam District Hospital from almost 265 donors having 150 odd females at the helm ready to share the life giving blood to the needy.
- KISSAN JYOTHI -2015@ Parathode
The Department of Mechanical engineering organized an Agricultural Project Exhibition- ‘Kissan Jyothi‘ on the 18th of March 2015(Wednesday) at the Open Market of Parathode Panchayat. The exhibition was inaugurated by our Patron, His Excellency Mar Mathew Arackal, Bishop of Kanjirappally. During this various projects done at AmalJyothi College of Engineering under the Mechanical Engineering Department were displayed and the idea of commercialization of existing projects was the prime motive along with lending a helping hand to the framer community. The farmers and allied industrialists in the nearby areas showed keen interest, sharing their problems and providing with possible modification of the projects on display. The program was sought after by the mainstream media, popularizing the idea of sustaining the farming community. The Department is organizing more events in the similar format during the coming days at various places, based on the feedback from the event at Parathode.
‘Srishti 2015’, a ‘National Level Technical Project Exhibition and Competition’ for students of Engineering Colleges organized by Saintgits college of engineering on Feb 13, 14th witnessed extra ordinary contribution from the Mechanical Engineering students of AMAL JYOTHI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, which finally ended up in bagging the BEST INSTITUTION AWARD, BEST CIVIL ENGINEERING PROJECT and BEST INNOVATION AWARD- (Plastic To Fuel) .
Srishti 2015 presented an opportunity for all talented students to showcase their innovative projects from the whole of India . The exhibition was an ideal platform for industries and national organizations to feel the pulse of the students and to empower them in the field of innovation and entrepreneurial activities.

The stall which was set up at the CMS College, Kottayam as part of the inauguration of road safety week attracted a lot of crowd due to its uniqueness and specialties.
The programme was organized by the Motor Vehicles Department of Government of Kerala which was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister, Shri Oommen Chandy in the presence of Honorable minister of Transport, Shri Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
Our stall which was put up in in collaboration with the Mechanical & Automobile Departments were visited by the officers in the Motor Vehicles Department and Kerala Police who appreciated the equipment displayed. The common people to whom the interior parts of an automobile is unknown showed special interest to understand the details and intricacies of
automobiles and the problems they face in their day-to-day driving along with its solutions and prevention were discussed at the stall.In short, the stall organized by our college as part of the road safety week inauguration was a grand success and it gave insight to around 500 visitors regarding the inside of a vehicle and its operations.

Amal Jyothi students have yet again won prizes in the prestigious Innovation Hub National project contest held during December 4th to 7th at INFOCOM-2014, held at ITC Sonar, Kolkata. It is a matter of great pride for all of us that the prospective mechanical engineers have won top prizes in Innovation Hub contest for the eighth consecutive year. proving once again that ME department can bring more laurels to AJCE that will echo through the ages to come .Hearty congratulations to the winners and their mentors. Congrats to the team comprising of Mr. Richu J. Babu, Mr. Philip Thomas, Mr. Sony Mathew, Mr. Sharon Rony Jacob of S3 ME-ABatch who secured 1st prize and a cash award of Six thousand Rupees, competing among 12 teams from various colleges for the paper presentation (Blue Print) at TATHVA ’14 @NIT Calicut, on 1st November. This group of students also took part in the paper presentation @ MAC, Kothamangalam for the event titled THAKSHAK ’14 on 19 September 2014 securing 3rd place competing against 15 teams bagging cash prizes. These students were guided on the topic HUMAN HAIR RE-INFORCED COMPOSITES by Mr.Jibin C. Jacob of Mechanical Engineering Department and Dr. Soney C. George from Department of Basic Science opening new arenas in the field of bio inspired composites.
Inauguration of Association of Mechanical Engineering (AME) – IGNITION 2014 by Mr. P.S Suresh Kumar -General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Kottayam on 28th August 2014 (Thursday) at 10.30 am in the College Auditorium.Mr.P.Suresh Kumar talked about “Role of young Entrepreneurs in Indian Society” in his inaugural address , he motivated the young folks to be challenging citizens rather than mere degree holders in the years to come. He also motivated and emphasized the importance of grooming young individuals with entrepreneurial drive and educated them on the industry trends in the era of globalization through vibrant examples in daily events.
- Eminent Engineer’-Jippu Jacob
Jippu Jacob, Head, Postgraduate Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, was awarded the title ‘Eminent Engineer’of the Institution of Engineers (India), at the function held in Thiruvananthapuram during February 22-23, 2014. Dr. Jiipu Jacob, who is a former Dean of the Kerala Agricultural University, received the honour from P. Rajendran, Vice Chancellor, Kerala Agricultural University, at the 27th National Convention of Agricultural Engineers in Thiruvananthapuram. The award was in recognition of four decades of eminent service and contributions in agricultural engineering, particularly in education and research. Dr. Jippu Jacob has two patents to his credit.He was felicitated by the college for the same by K. C. Joseph is the present minister for Rural Development, Planning & Culture of the Government of Kerala.
